In preparation for the Municipal (Council) Election 2025, please review the following.
If you are considering offering yourself as a Candidate for Council in this year’s election, you must:
- Be eligible to vote in election.
- Be an ordinary resident in Carmanville for at least 30 days before September 4th, 2025. (Nomination Day)
- Not be in arrears of taxes or other charges payable to the Town – taxes must be paid in full including 2025 taxes as the due date for taxes under the Municipalities Act is June 30th.
A Municipal employee other than clerk, manager or paid department head who has requested and received a leave of absence is also eligible for nomination.
If you meet the above criteria you must then get two (2) residents who are eligible to vote in the
Municipal Election to Nominate you as a Candidate. These two residents must accompany you to the Town Office on Nomination Day (September 4th, 2025 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.) to complete the Nomination Form. If you accept the Nomination, you sign the Nomination Form indicating your acceptance.
If you wish to run for Council but cannot be present on Nomination Day, you must still get two (2) residents who are eligible to vote in the Municipal Election to Nominate you as a Candidate. These two residents must come to the Town Office on Nomination Day and complete a Nomination Form indicating that you are unable to be present for the Nomination and that you will accept the Nomination.
There is also a Candidate Supplementary Information form that must be completed by each
Candidate at the time of Nomination. A non-refundable nomination fee of $10.00 must be paid by each candidate at the time of Nomination.
A Notice of the Names of Candidates who have been nominated will be posted within 7 days
following the close of Nominations.
Election Day – October 2nd, 2025 - From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Town Building (Chambers)
To be eligible to vote in the Municipal Election a person must be:
- A Canadian Citizen
- At least 18 years old on or before Election Day
- Ordinarily resident for 30 days immediately prior to Election.
If you are unable to vote in person on Election Day, you can vote by Proxy. Contact the office for further details.
We encourage everyone to come out and vote to support the candidate(s) of your choice to serve on Council for the next 4 year term.
