A Distinctive Place
Apart from Carmanville Pond, the other water body in the Town’s Conservation Area is Middle Arm. This Saltwater Bay, east of Carmanville, is the destination of choice for thousands of migrating ducks and geese.
Salt marshes appear in several areas of the Arm. The marshes are important nursery areas for lobster, herring, flounder, mussels and scallops. They are also home to such plant species as Slender Glasswort, Eel Grass, Salt Marsh Sedge, Sea Lavender and Seaside Plantain.
Middle Arm can be accessed on foot via a small trail at Carmanville South but to really enjoy the attractions that the Arm has to offer you need to use a boat.
