The Harbour Authority of Carmanville is an incorporated, not-for-profit organization. They have a board of directors and members, who are representative of local interest groups and harbour users.
The coastal wharf was managed by the Federal Ministry of Transport until the Harbour Authority of Carmanville came into existence in the fall of 1996.
The Harbour Authority is responsible for managing, operating and maintaining the wharf .
The harbour in Carmanville has now become well known for its accessibility and for the service provided by the Harbour Authority.
The harbour operates at full capacity from early spring when the ice moves out until almost Christmas. During the summer Carmanville harbour is quite busy with activity of up to 65 long liners berthing and offloading their catch on a regular basis.
The port has natural deep-water and is able to handle large ships, such as, Canadian Coast Guard, Transportation, Tugs and Barges as well as recreational vessels. In the past march pulpwood ships loaded here, as well as refrigerator cargo ships with frozen fish destined for the Japanese market.
