The water leak at 92 Main Street was repaired on June 3rd, 2024. Town Worker will lower the curb stop when clean-up is completed.

Bench – Shuffleboards
Members were informed that the bench for the shuffleboards was intended for the players use, not spectators use. The funding we received was for seniors’ inclusion and the bench was intended to include players who have mobility issues (such as back problems, knee or hip problems) but were still capable of playing the game.

Resolve that the proceeds from the sale of the Fire Van by Public Tender in the amount of $600.00 would be given to the Fire Department as they originally purchased the Van using their own funds.

W.S. Phase 4 – Easements
Town Engineer advised that Municipal Affairs are recommending that Easements should be obtained from homeowners where more than one residence is connected to the new sewer lines in Phase 4 of the Water and Sewer Project. This will be at the expense of the Town. Engineer is checking how they should be done up and the cost and will get back to the town when the requirements/cost is obtained.

CSJ Applications
The applications for the Canada Summer Jobs were reviewed by members and a candidate was chosen.

Public Works:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Water Report/Boil Order
Water testing was conducted by Government Services on June 4th and found to be satisfactory. As a result, the Boil Water Advisory was lifted on June 6th, 2024.

Chlorine Readings
The Chlorine Readings for the month of May were presented to and reviewed by members. Readings were within the recommended guidelines.

Public Works:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Water Usage/Flow Data
The Water Usage and Flow Data reports for the month of May were presented to and reviewed by members. The average water usage for May was 181,515 gallons per day.

Trailer Hitch
The Hitch on the Town Pickup broke during clean-up and has been replaced with little interruption to the clean-up.

Hydrant Leak NC Head
The Fire Hydrant at the end of Main Street (turnaround at Noggin Cove Head) is leaking and has been for a while. Pictures were presented to and reviewed by members. Members were in agreement that this be repaired as soon as clean-up is completed.

Fire Dept:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 2025 FES Funding
A suggestion was received from Fire Chief White that we use the 2024 FES Funding application to apply for a new rescue van. Since applications can’t be submitted until January or February of 2025 and we have 2 applications submitted for 2024 for a Washer and BA’s, members decided to wait until we hear from this year’s applications before considering this suggestion. The response from the applications submitted will determine how much Council will have to spend to replace our current BA’s which will be outdated in December 2024.

Fit Test
Members were in agreement that only members that wear the BA’s need to be fit tested. Further that the Fit Testing should be done on both the Honeywell and MSA BA’s.

Council is invited to attend the Fire Department’s Year End BBQ on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.

An OHS Officer visited the Town Office on June 5th, 2024 which resulted in 4 new Orders issued. A copy of the Inspection/Officer’s Report and the Orders is attached to the Minutes. Members were in agreement that the Orders be carried out as soon as possible.

New Waterline Installation

Business:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â MNL Convention
Members were reminded that the MNL Convention is scheduled for November 7th to 9th, 2024 in Gander and asked to notify the office if they are interested in attending. Rooms are allocated by MNL only after registration to the Convention has been completed.

RCMP Presentation on Fraud/Scams
RCMP Officer did a presentation on Fraud/Scams at the Recreation Center on June 4th, 2024. The turnout was extremely low. However, the presentation was excellent and he offered to do a second presentation in September. This presentation will be included in a Seniors Event to encourage Senior’s participation.
